Bassetlaw MP John Mann has today called for the Government to appoint Commissioners to take over Oxfordshire County Council. The move comes as the Oxfordshire Safeguarding Children’s Board released its damning children’s services report into how the county’s child abuse victims were treated over a sixteen-year period.
Mann commented: “Today’s report shows that the leadership at Oxfordshire County Council has let down young people who were abused.”
“More than 300 young people were the victims of abuse over a sixteen year period and it is vitally important that a thorough investigation is put in place to ascertain what went wrong.”
“In the meantime Commissioners should be appointed to take over the running of the Council’s children’s services and independently report back to the Government.”
“I was the first person to call for the Government to intervene in Rotherham and if it is good enough for Rotherham it is good enough for Oxfordshire.”
