Bassetlaw MP calls for prison sentences for abuse cover-ups

As plans to jail teachers, social workers and councillors who turn a blind eye to child abuse are unveiled by David Cameron today, John Mann MP has called for the measures to be extended to other professions.

The Bassetlaw MP commented: “Jail for covering up child abuse should not just be restricted to a few professions. This proposal is wholly inadequate.”

“Why should religious leaders, the police and political party whips in Westminster who have covered up abuse escape justice?”

“There should not be one rule for teachers and another for politicians. Those who turn a blind eye should be locked up, however influential they are.”
