Bassetlaw MP Says It’s Time for Change at Rotherham Council

Bassetlaw MP John Mann has called on the Labour Party to remove from office all those Councillors in Rotherham who have who have failed to recognise the sheer scale of their failures to protect children in Rotherham and instead chosen to attack Times journalist, Andrew Norfolk and Professor Alexis Jay.

The report by Louise Casey into Rotherham Council has found a dysfunctional council that is starved of both the clear leadership and adequate procedures it needs in order to implement the changes Professor Jay called for.

John Mann said “Louise Casey has clearly shown that many Councillors in Rotherham simply refused to accept what has happened to the children of Rotherham under their watch.”

Mann continued “Some of these were the same people who attempted to break up Sarah Champion’s parliamentary selection and staged a walkout at her selection meeting as they wanted one of their own to be selected.”

“The fact that the former Council Leader, Roger Stone and former Police Commissioner Shaun Wright refused to speak to Louise Casey just shows how little they care for the children they let down.”

“The Labour Party now needs to act to ensure that those Councillors and former Councillors are asked to resign or are expelled so that these people can never stand again as Labour Party candidates.”
