Bassetlaw MP Tables Motion Calling on Government to Act on Ivory Sales

Bassetlaw MP John Mann has tabled a Parliamentary Motion calling on the Government to implement its commitment and introduce a total ban on all ivory sales and close down the ivory market in the UK.

John Mann MP tabled the motion because on average an elephant in Africa is killed once every 15 minutes for their ivory tusks and he believes that the Government must do more to offer protection to these wonderful animals. It has already received the backing of more than 20 MPs.

John Mann said “The killing of an elephant for its ivory is sickening and the Government must now act on their good intentions and go one step further by introducing a blanket ban on the sale of all ivory products in the UK.”

John Mann continued “The Chinese Government, a major force in the world’s ivory market has announced it will ban all domestic trade in ivory by the end of 2017, its time we got our act together in the UK.”
