Bassetlaw MP John Mann has today condemned the Government for releasing plans to close Worksop Magistrates’ Court.
“The Government adopted a plan of death by a thousand cuts for Worksop Courthouse and today’s announcement is the final nail in the coffin.”
“In the last Parliament they took criminal cases away from the court which is the only reason it is now underused.”
“During a debate last year in Parliament the Government denied that they planned to close the court and now they have gone back on their word.”
“Local justice has been good enough for the last thousand years in Bassetlaw and there is no good reason to change that now. There have been numerous reports of people struggling to attend court in Mansfield. The Government fails to recognise the geographic size of Bassetlaw and the transport difficulties.”
“I will be demanding that the Government cuts back on false promises and keeps the court open.”
